Class Reflection Blog

At the beginning of each Unit, Miss Smith will upload a new blog post. Each post will reflect on the information that we will be learning in that Unit, and it will challenge you to push your understanding further.

*VERY IMPORTANT* - Make sure that you read each blog post from beginning to end. There will be an assignment linked with each one that will be submitted at the end of the unit via Google Classroom. Pay close attention to ALL instructions!

Unit 1 Reflection: Zombies!

Your reflection for Unit 1 consists of three parts. Part 1 is your creative reflection and is described below:

We have spent the last couple of weeks learning about the geography, climate, physiographic features, and transportation systems of the state of Georgia. By now, you're an expert, right? YOU. . . are prepared for anything.

But are you prepared for a zombie apocalypse?? There are two kinds of people in this world: people who have a plan for when zombies take over the world, and those who don't. With your knowledge of the state of Georgia, can you devise a plan to survive?

Think back to the video that we watched on the first day of Unit 1. Don't remember? Here's a link to refresh your memory:

It's summer and The Walking Dead is filming new episodes here in Georgia. At the end of a long day of filming, the director yells, "Cut!" He quickly realizes that some of the zombies are NOT acting. The real zombie apocalypse has come to Georgia! Using your newly acquired knowledge, you are now tasked with getting your friends and family to safety. What part of the state do you think will be your safest bet?

Decide which geographic region you will lead your group to and why. Remember to come up with a list of push factors and pull factors to support your argument. You should consider geography, climate, water sources, transportation, and more. You must convince me that you have chosen the safest and most appropriate place to hide out until this all passes.

In Part 2 of this reflection, you will reassess your current knowledge using the self-assessment rubric that we looked at on Day 1. Simply choose the box that describes what you know.

In Part 3 of this reflection, you will tell me why you chose the levels that you did. In what areas did you grow the most? In what areas do you still need help? This section should be no more than one paragraph in length.

Your assignment is due on Monday, August 20, and should be completed in Google Classroom. Your rubric can be found here and on the assignment link in Google Classroom.
